Conference

When puberty meets menopause

Conference language: Luxembourgish

Menopause is a natural and inevitable stage in every woman’s life. Yet its most common symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, fatigue, sleep disturbances, irritability, difficulties with concentration and memory, joint pain, as well as anxiety and depression, among many others are still too often considered taboo or misunderstood.

Today, women spend approximately one-third, and sometimes even up to half, of their lives in perimenopause and postmenopause. Although menopause is not a disease, its effects can have a significant impact on both personal and professional life. As such, it represents an important public health issue, particularly with regard to mental health.

A better understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying menopausal symptoms, the dismantling of common misconceptions, and the identification of the key pillars of a healthy lifestyle such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress management can help women navigate this stage of life with greater confidence and peace of mind. This applies both in the workplace and in private life, where several challenges may occur simultaneously: children going through adolescence, changing relationship dynamics, or ageing parents becoming increasingly dependent.

Furthermore, providing women with accurate information and raising awareness enables them to make informed decisions that support their long-term health and well-being, both now and in the years ahead.

This topic, together with an initiative aimed at fostering dialogue between generations around menopause and puberty, will be at the heart of the Conference organised as part of the 2026 Mental Health Weeks 2026 Niederanven together with the association Lëtz Menopause and the Kanner Helpdesk.
